INT. BERGEN COUNTY JUSTICE CENTER - HACKENSACK, NEW JERSEY - AFTERNOON
We open inside the courtroom of the Honorable Joel Crosby of the New Jersey Superior Court, Chancery Division, Family part. Court is in session. Two counsel tables face the bench: at one, sit an attorney and his client; at the other, an attorney stands, facing the witness seated beside the judge. The witness is a woman, mid 40's, well dressed, wearing dark glasses that cover her eyes.
The doors leading to the courtroom open, and BOBBY MCVEIGH and SAMANTHA PAVAK enter, and quietly find seats in the back, their attention focused on the attorney on his feet at one of the counsel tables, facing the judge and the witness.
He is MORT GOODMAN, ESQ.
Mort pulls a stack of papers from the table in front of him.
The judge nods. Mort moves from behind the counsel table toward the witness on the stand.
Mort moves in close, points to something on one of papers that the witness is holding.
Karen takes a deep breath. She takes off her dark glasses so she can get a better look at the email. As she takes off her glasses, she reveals a large, ugly black eye and swelling under her right eye.
Karen pauses and looks to the judge, uncomfortable to continue.
The judge shoots a death stare at the defendant-- Karen's husband-- a middle aged sonofabitch-- who diverts his eyes.
The judge bangs his gave, temporarily concluding the matter.
INT. BERGEN COUNTY JUSTICE CENTER - HALLWAYS - CONTINUOUS
We are now in the hallways of the Courthouse, just outside of the doors leading to Judge Crosby's courtroom. The doors open, and Mort Goodman exits the courtroom into the hallway, followed closely by Bobby McVeigh and Samantha Pavak.
Mort turns around.
Bobby is caught off guard by Mort's placement of him.
Mort looks to Samantha, standing next to Bobby.
Samantha holds out her hand.
Mort shakes her hand.
That last comment takes the wind out of Bobby's sails before he can even speak. He looks confused.
Mort was going to finish there, but then added, with a trace of bitterness,
Now it's Mort who is taken off guard.
There's a pause.
Mort turns to leave.
Mort stops in his tracks. He turns back to his visitors. He is a well of emotion.
Mort turns to leave again, but now it is Bobby that calls out to him.
Mort turns back one last time.
Mort smirks.

They are e-mails from my Husband to me.
MORT
And is that your email address?
KAREN
Yes.
MORT
And is that your husband's email address?
KAREN
Yes.
JUDGE
Let the record reflect that the plaintiff
has identified the sending email as
her husband's email address.

It says, "Karen, you...
JUDGE
Go ahead.

JUDGE
We are gonna take a short recess, but
Mr. Goodman, when we return, you may
be brief. You need not go much further--
I think I've already made my decision.

BOBBY
Mr. Goodman.
BOBBY
Mr. Goodman, my name's Bobby--
MORT
McVeigh.

you, and I first I couldn't place
you, but then it came to me.
you, and I first I couldn't place
you, but then it came to me.
BOBBY
How did you--
MORT
Wrestletown was a hell of a documentary, and
you're a hell of a coach. Like you, I've been
involved with the sport for a long time.
Fanatics stick together, know other fanatics
I suppose. What are you doing here-- you
are not not getting divorced, I hope?

SAMANTHA
Oh no, I'm not his wife, I mean, we're not here for--
SAMANTHA
I'm Samantha Pavak.
BOBBY
We actually took a road trip to see you.
MORT
That's a long way to come to
see me. What can I do for you--
that doesn't involve wrestling.
see me. What can I do for you--
that doesn't involve wrestling.
MORT
I'm sorry guys, but if you've come out here
looking to recruit, you've wasted your time.
I'm done, out of the game, this time for good.
Besides, I have nothing left to bring to the table.

MORT
If you're looking for Carter Hayes, you
might want to check with Marty
Sunshine. Now if you'll excuse--

SAMANTHA
He's already signed.
MORT
Excuse me?
SAMANTHA
Carter, he's already signed with
Wrestletown. Him, Marty, Priscilla
Price-- it was announced two days ago.

MORT
Well, good for him. Like I said,
I have nothing to bring to the
table. So if you'll excuse me.

SAMANTHA
What about Grace?
MORT
Grace? I haven't seen Grace in a couple
weeks now. Nobody has. Not since that last
night Washington when that son of a -- not
since Carter aligned with Marty. It changed
him, and it upset her, so she disappeared.

BOBBY
I'm sorry.
MORT
Don't be. She does this from time to time.
If you're looking for Grace, I'd check Spain.
As for me, I'm done. I'm done with the sport,
I'm done with Grace, and I'm done with Carter.
I gave that kid my everything. The moment he
signed with Marty, he took away everything I have.

KAREN
Mort, can I talk to you?
MORT
I wish you both the best
of luck, but if you'd excuse
me, I really do have to go.
of luck, but if you'd excuse
me, I really do have to go.
BOBBY
Wait.
BOBBY
Mort, from one fanatic to another, you and
I both know you can't walk away from this
game. Everyone who has tried-- and I'm
talking only about the real passionate ones,
have always returned. It's in our blood. What if I
can bring you something worth coming back for?
