"Girls hit your hallelujah, WOO
Cause uptown funk gon' give it to you
Cause uptown funk gon' give it to you
Cause uptown funk gon' give it to you
Saturday night and we in the spot
Don't believe me just watch
Don't believe me just watch"
I woke up with a grin on my face as the uptempo song put me in a nice mood. My grin turned into a smile as I looked to my left where Lenora slept, beautiful as ever. I did my best not to wake her up as I turned and put my feet on the floor, but the second I stood, I heard a low moan and looked back to see those gorgeous eyes fluttering open.
"Stay in bed."
"It's an extremely tempting off, but I'll be back after my run. Bring you back something from the bakery."
I gave her a kiss and quickly slipped on a simple pair of black athletic shorts, a Wrestletown T-shirt and my shoes. I grabbed the ipod and my wallet off the dresser, and went to head out, but had to stop as the damage from Dominatrix Barbie, reared it's ugly head. I shook it off and went to continue, but Lenora grabbed my arm and stopped me.
"Chris, you need to take it easy."
"I'm fine baby. Just not quite woke up I guess."
That brought the arms crossed over the chest and eye daggers straight to me.
"No, it's because some crazy bitch has been attacking you since you stepped foot in this town. I thought all of this stuff was done and over with."
"Lenora, I promise you that I'm fine. Those little attacks aren't anything I can't handle."
"Chris, stop it. You don't have to sit here and be tough right now. It's just me. That damn woman has made you bleed, choked you out, and been a huge pain in the ass."
I just sighed and shook my head slightly as I stuffed the ipod into my pocket, knowing this conversation probably wasn't going to end anytime soon, but I could give it a shot.
"After Ascension, after I beat that damn dominatrix barbie, this will end."
"It won't ever end Chris. There's always gonna be some new threat, look at this week..."
Yep, not gonna be over anytime soon.
"Sweetie, someone has to stop them. These whackjobs can't just be left unchecked. They can just run around doing whatever they want, and unless someone stands up to them, they'll keep on and eventually this place will die."
"Why does it have to be you?"
She'd asked me that question months ago, and didn't like the answer I gave her then. I can only imagine she won't be a fan of this answer either.
"I just... I need to do this. I need to end things the right way. For once in my career, I want to leave a company in a better place than it was when I joined. This place, this town, it's like a fresh start for my career. It's a chance to not make the same mistakes I did before. I can't exactly claim to be a hero and not stand up when a villain comes around."
"I don't need a hero."
She turned away from me after she said that. I walked over and tried to put my hand on her shoulder, but she moved away from my touch.
" I love you and I want to support you, but... I just don't know how much longer I can take seeing you beaten up, bloodied, and left out there for the vultures."
"Lenora, I can't not fight against the crazy bastards."
"I know that, and I'm not telling you to, but I can't sit there and watch it. When we go back to Dallas later this week, I'm gonna stay for awhile. I'll be rooting for you, but I can't be there to see another bloodbath."
I hung my head out of... shame, sadness, anger, I really didn't know what.
"Go ahead and go run, and don't forget you promised me something from the bakery."
She turned back around to me, the slight remnants of a tear still damp on her left cheek.
"I'll remember, and I'll find a way to get rid of these psycho's stop the crazy bloodbath's, and just wrestle. You can still watch me wrestle, right?"
"Yes, and if that actually happens, I'll in the front row cheering you on, but I can't be there at Ascension."
"All right."
I let another sigh escape. Hoping that letting just a small bit of disappointment slip through, would allow me to hide the rest. I gave her a quick kiss and headed out, not wanting to linger there any longer and let her see how much knowing she wasn't going to be there, was killing me inside. Still, I've got to push ahead and focus on taking out the dominatrix barbie.
