The Steel Mill Tavern was abuzz with activity as all the people in the town who couldn't get into the arena, were watching the very first edition of The Show. Chuck Savage looked like he might have actually just been frowning instead of scowling, as the patrons brought plenty of beer. Two who weren't paying attention the show however, were Kolin Daire and Cindy Stevens. They'd found a table away from the crowd and tucked themselves in there, hoping to avoid too much attention. Cassie McVeigh had of course run up and given Cindy a huge hug when she saw her, not caring one bit what people thought, but other than her, everyone else had left them alone. Kolin sat with a beer and an almost finished steak in front of him, as Cindy nibbled at a salad.
"So, I've been wondering. Why did you come to the strip club to get a job? You seem like a smart guy, and tough, why not like go to the police station and see if the sheriff would hire you? I know he hates that jerk TJ."
"That wasn't really an option for me."
Cindy took another bite of her salad and then pointed her fork at him.
"Did you go to jail?"
Kolin didn't say a word, just let out a deep sigh before taking a sip of his beer.
"Let me guess, some guy tried to put his hands on your girlfriend, you protected her, he whined and his brother or something was a cop."
"No. I wish it was that... noble. I did some bad things for some worse people, can we just leave it at that?"
"Oh, okay."
"Now, why the strip club for you? You're very attractive, so that kind of makes sense, but you don't strike me as dumb or irresponsible or non ambitious. Is it a saving up to try and make a better life type of thing."
"It's a, my dad was a drunk, my mom was a slut, we lived in a tiny ass trailer, and Caspar said I could make a lot of money, type of thing. Can we just leave it at that?"
Kolin smirked a little before taking a sip of his beer.
"Fair enough."
Kolin finished off his steak as Cindy pushed the salad away.
"So, is this really all you're wanting to do?"
Kolin looked at Cindy and could see that she was still surprised he wasn't taking advantage of Caspar's 'generosity'.
"Cindy, you're very attractive, and I'm not going to say that I don't want to do what Caspar was expecting, but you're not property. You're not something he can give away for the night or at all. I'm not going to take advantage of you like that. I beat the hell out of Kendrick, because he deserved it, and to make sure he didn't get the key and end up taking advantage of you. I've done some things in my life that I'm not incredibly proud of, but I would never do something like that."
Cindy smiled, stood up from her chair, walked over to Kolin, leaned down and pulled him in for a kiss. She kept at it, even pulling some attention from the people watching The Show. She stepped back, and went to her chair again.
"We can do whatever you want. It's my choice."
Kolin took a few deep breaths, then finished the rest of his beer. He looked over at Cindy and thought about what he should do next for quite awhile.
"Well... believe me, I do want to, but we can't Cindy. I'm not a one night type of guy, plus we're gonna have to see each other a lot at the club. Much as I would enjoy going home with you, it wouldn't end well, for either of us."
Cindy is genuinely disappointed, having put herself out there like that. Kolin places his hand on hers, and gives her a smile, the first one anyone but his sister has seen in probably five years.
"I don't mean to hurt you Cindy."
"I know, it's just... it's been a long time since a man treated me like an actual person. I don't have a problem with the stripping and all of that. It's the guys who think that just because I take my clothes off for a living, I owe them a fucking blowjob or something. I'm not some kind of whore."
"Don't let them make you feel like that. Anyone who does, is a dick."
Cassie McVeigh comes over, clearly having overheard some of the conversation, she hugs her friend again before giving Kolin the bill.
"How about I take you home Cindy. If Caspar asks what happens, I'll just tell him it's between me and you."
Kolin looks at the bill, see's it's just a little over thirty bucks and pulls out three twenties. He puts them down before getting up and pulling Cindy's chair out for her. She hugs him and gives him a kiss on the cheek.
"Thanks for this."
Kolin and Cindy head out, hearing a few people say some less than pleasant things about Cindy. Kolin balls up his fist and goes to turn back and teach them a lesson, but Cindy grabs his arm.
"It's fine, I've gotten used to it. Like you said, they're just dicks."
Kolin takes a deep breath and unclenches his fist. Cindy takes his arm and leans her head against him as he walks her back to the car.
