By now, there wasn't anyone who had not heard, or seen, the news. Word of the new gym opening across the street from The Varsity Club had spread like wildfire, being talked about on every local news station in Holston. Footage of Colton Woods being placed into the back of Ed Hood's car was eating the social media of Holston alive. Professional wrestling hadn't even had its first event in Holston, and already the larger-than-life personalities were beginning to tear the city down.
Jack Evans pulled into the parking lot of The Varsity Club for the second time of the day. This time, the sun had already set, and Jack's clock on his dash told him that it was nearing 11pm. Jack opened the door and immediately heard his name called to him from the front of the building. In the dark, it was hard to see at first, but once Jack's eyes were adjusted to the dimly lit area, Jack noticed Colton Woods' massive frame standing outside.
"Jack! You got a minute?"
"Sure. I just stopped by to talk to ya. How're ya holdin' up?"
Jack stopped just short of Colton. The outside lights of The Varsity Club were better here, just outside the door, so Jack could easily make out the pissed off expression Colton wore across his face. His lip turned up into almost a snarl.
"Those sons of bitches across the street are trying to take over MY turf... Of our turf. This is the place that the Holston Huskies came and train. This is the place where wrestlers are going to train before The Show. Not some frilly juice bar gym."
Jack glanced back across the street to the construction crews setting up everything for the new gym. He shook his head silently and turned back to Colton.
"What should we do about it?"
"Are you kidding? I want a throw a brick through their fucking window, that's what I want to do. Maybe head over there with a baseball bat and beat that pompous Marty Sunshine in the head a couple hundred times..."
Jack put his hand up calmly.
"Ya, that's probably not the best way to go about things... Wait, I have an idea..."
Colton's eyebrow arched.
"What're you thinking? Slamming one of them into some barbed-wire ropes with an irish whip?"
Jack chuckled sardonically.
"No... Well, that would drive the point home to Marty Sunshine and his group of friends... No, I've got a better idea. Do you still have any contacts from around the state that used to wrestle for the Huskies?"
"Hell yeah."
"Good... Here's what we're going to do. When Sunshine and the Lollipop Guild over there do their fancy-pants grand opening, I'm going to call a few of my friends in from the wrestling business..."
"And get them to crack their skulls? Nice thinking, Jack."
"No, not to crack their skulls. We're going to do a WrestleTown, USA autograph signing here at The Varsity Club. You call up some of the bigger names that wrestled for the Huskies, I'll call up some of the guys from the professional side of things. We'll get a few ring girls and throw some hot dogs and burgers on a grill... Have a tailgate, of sorts. Draw the eyes away from the Sunshine band and over here, to where it should be."
Colton put his chin in his hand, going deep into thought on the subject. After a few seconds, he started nodding.
"Yeah... Hell yeah! I like it. Who do we call up first?"
Jack glanced back across the street to where the construction workers were. He narrowed his eyes.
"Ed Hood... Make sure the sheriff is here to break up anything that happens once the shit hits the fans."
